Surveillance Investigator selection criteria

Sub Contract Surveillance Investigator
We are seeking a fully qualified surveillance agent to be part of our surveillance unit.

Help is available if you are thinking of relocating to Canberra from interstate. Sick of the traffic in Sydney. Canberra is a great place to bring up the family. Call us if you have any questions about working & living in Canberra.

It will help if you include the following information when applying for positions with Executive Investigations:

  • Current NSW Private Inquiry Agent (CAPI) License.
  • Number of years PI License held.
  • Number of years of investigation experience.
  • Surveillance investigation experience.
  • Computer literate & technology friendly.
  • If you have any Police, Military or other Government body investigation experience.
  • If you have a Pty Ltd company or registered business name.
  • Registered ABN number.
  • Current or past Government Security Clearance held.
  • If you have Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  • If you have Public Liability Insurance.
  • If you have Workers Compensation Insurance.
  • Certificate IV in Government Investigation or similar.
  • Formal investigation education & or courses completed.
  • Own basic Surveillance investigation equipment.

Other considerations

  • Late model vehicle.
  • Applicant is articulate & of neat appearance.
  • Applicant residence in the Canberra area.
  • The above list is in no particular order and not in order of value.

Remuneration & Conditions
Conditions will be discussed if the applicant reached an interview stage. Hourly contract rate for fully qualified members will be in the range of $50 to $60 dollars per hour depending on the investigators experience and which of our clients you are servicing.

Eligibility to Apply
To be eligible for appointment, the applicant must be an Australian citizen. However, applicants with permanent resident status who have applied, or intend to apply for Australian citizenship may be appointed on probation pending the granting of citizenship.

Preparing your application
Before you consider applying for the position, read the Job Description and Selection Criteria. (NOT ALL POSITIONS HAVE A SELECTION CRITERIA) Also talk or email the contact officer with any questions.

Writing your application
Brief, written applications, focused on the selection criteria are preferred. As selection may be based solely on applications and referee reports, the quality (not quantity) of written applications is an important factor.

Applications should include the following so Executive Investigations have sufficient information to assess your claims.

  • Statement addressing the Selection Criteria (if required)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing personal details and work history
  • Two Referees


Your Curriculum Vitae should comprise a resume of personal particulars and an outline of your work history. The following is a suggested format:

Full name and address
Telephone number (contact number during business hours)
Educational Qualifications (title, majors, date and institution where obtained or expected date of completion)
Employment History (include dates, name of employer, position occupied) and a brief outline of the duties undertaken. The details should be in reverse chronological order, starting with your present position and working backwards. Be concise and only give relevant information about major responsibilities. It is not necessary to mention in detail jobs which were held for short periods unless the experience is relevant to the advertised position. However, please don't leave any unexplained gaps in your work history. If applicable, a minimum of the past five years history will suffice.
Referee Reports

You will need to provide two referee reports, either at the time of applying or at a later stage in the selection process. However, it is important that two referees be detailed (with appropriate contact numbers) on the Application.

Remuneration & Conditions
Conditions will be discussed if the applicant reached an interview stage. Hourly contract rate will vary depending on the investigators experience and which field you are working in. Executive Investigations has a standing policy of pay higher then industry standard to help secure quality staff, coupled with a friendly and well equipped working environment we pride our self on keep long term staff.
